Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo presents a new installation of Parallel I-IV, the last completed work by the artist and filmaker Harun Farocki (1944-2014). “I am researching these strange new images which are somehow on the verge of competing with and defeating finally the cinematic-photographic image. The era of reproduction seems to be over, and the era of construction of a new world seems to be somehow on the horizon, or not on the horizon, it is already here.” With these words Farocki describes the series of 4 pieces entitled Parallel, a reflection on the status of the image in the digital age, a rigorous structural analysis...

Life World Photography from the CIAC Collection

Curated by Tanya Barson Inspired by the writings of philosopher Vilem Flusser, the exhibition seeks to develop and expand the notion of a philosophy of photography or, as Flusser put it, to ‘contribute to a discussion about the subject “photography” in a philosophical spirit.’ It aims to show how photography became a key tool for the development of human consciousness in relation to the ‘worldhood of the world’ and also reflects on the question of the philosophical status of photography at the moment when Flusser was writing, beginning with ‘Towards a Philosophy of Photography’(1983) and continuing with ‘Into the Universe of...

Unemployment

Unemployment is the latest chapter in a cycle of exhibitions that speculate on nascent political, economic, and cultural issues that are likely to define the coming decades. Adopting a narrative approach, they develop several themes and move chronologically from the observation of the present to a prediction about the future. Kline’s previous project Freedom (2015-2016), the beginning of the cycle, centered on the possibility of political action, the potential of political speech, and the fate of democracy itself in societies where the social commons has been privatized. The installation was inspired by Zuccotti Park, made famous by the Occupy Wall...

The Institute of things to come | ECHT

curated by Ludovica Carbotta & Valerio Del Baglivo For the first chapter of The Institute, artist Bedwyr Williams presents Echt a film installation depicting a dystopian near future in which a fast-track feudal system has left the Britain divided among new chieftains. His curious and fantastical film imagines a future in which an apocalyptic event has forced humanity to reform society, having disregarded previous rules. In this new world where social status is determined by consumption, compulsive accumulators are kings. These accumulators of objects and junk have set up their new courts in former dancehalls and nightclubs, and are accompanied by a...

The Institute of things to come | Afrogalactica

curated by Ludovica Carbotta & Valerio Del Baglivo For the second chapter of The Institute, artist Kapwani Kiwanga presents Afrogalactica (2011–on-going), an epic narrative of the Afronaut Odyssey. ACCESSIBILITY

Project: the idea of an accessible museum involves that each visitor should be able to take advantage of the cultural content offered by the museum. The itineraries and activities proposed by the Educational Department of the Foundation are useful steps towards an easier, more active participation in the cultural life of the city. These reflections led us to subscribe to the Manifesto per la Cultura Accessibile, a common declaration in which the main cultural institutions in Turin and its surroundings pledge to work on issues of cultural accessibility. The Educational Department organizes exhibition visits and workshops in collaboration with Disability day care...
