April 15 – October 11, 2026

Opening: April 15, 7 PM

On April 15, 2026, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo inaugurates Theatre of the Mind, Lenz Geerk’s first solo exhibition in an Italian institution. In Geerk’s paintings, human figures, objects, and landscapes coexist within existential scenarios, where each element contributes to the representation of psychological or sensory experiences. Just as the bodies—quietly occupying the space of the canvas—are depicted in psychologically charged poses, so too still lifes and environments consistently share an introspective tendency. Through thick, textured colors with carefully controlled tonal variations, Geerk constructs suspended, dreamlike images imbued with a sense of ambiguity that remains unresolved.

The exhibition offers a comprehensive perspective on Lenz Geerk’s painting, bringing together a body of work that reflects a practice shaped by time, attention, and emotional nuance. Moving through portraits, still lifes, and other recurring motifs in Geerk’s oeuvre, the works articulate an approach to image-making that is at once disciplined and evocative. Figures and objects unfold within an atmosphere of quiet, where subtle variations in tone, gesture, and color suggest an inner life and psychological tension.

Rather than relying on dramatic narrative, the paintings find meaning at the margins of experience—intimate moments, suspended gazes, thresholds between presence and absence—thus configuring painting as a lived and ongoing process. Considered as a whole, the selection affirms Geerk’s commitment to the complexities of seeing and making, and to the idea that painting can give form to time and human experience.
