The Center for Contemporary Art (Centro per l\u2019Arte Contemporanea) in Turin has been the Fuondation\u2019s main exhibition venue ever since its opening in 2002. The Center is located in the San Paolo district, and was erected upon the former Fergat area, which used to be occupied by abandoned industrial facilities. Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo acquired a 99-year leasehold on the estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The building was designed by architect Claudio Silvestrin, and stands out for the essential simplicty of its spaces, which are especially conceived to house and exhibit contemporary art works, and were built with versatility and ease of management in mind. The horizontal direction of the building allows to efficiently manage the existing activities and everyday life of an exhibition center: from transporting and installing works to designing easy exhibition itineraries for the public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea behind the building of the Center was to provide the city of Turin with an international space for contemporary art, which can perform an equivalent role to that of the Kunsthalle in Germany, or the Centre d\u2019Art Contemporain in France: a place for meeting and exchange between the public and new generations of artists, critics and curators.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n
