On Monday, the 28th of May 2018, and on Tuesday, the 29th of May 2018, the Symposium “Statues also Die” will take place in Turin.
The symposium will gather scholars from different disciplinary and artistic areas with the aim of engaging in a critical discussion of the destruction and preservation of material culture in the past as in more recent times. These chronologically and geographically widespread phenomena will be scrutinized through the lenses of archaeology, history, contemporary art, sociology, anthropology and museology.
The Symposium will be organised as follows:
28th May 2018, from 09.00 a.m. to 07.00 p.m – Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (via Modane 16, Turin)
29th May 2018, from 09.15 a.m. to 07.30 p.m. – Cavallerizza Reale (via Giuseppe Verdi 6, Turin)
The symposium is part of the multi-location exhibition project entitled “Statues Also Die. Conflict and Heritage between Ancient and Contemporary”, created by the shared reflection of four institutions: Museo Egizio, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Musei Reali, Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino. The exhibition will be on display at the Museo Egizio until the 9th of September 2018.
