Combining the kitchen of an ambitious chef like Alessandro Mecca into one of the most important centers for contemporary art: it is 2015 when Emilio Re Rebaudengo takes over Spazio7, a cafeteria and a restaurant within the Foundation that bears his family name. Just few month after the opening, Emilio entrusts the keys of the kitchen to Alessandro, who followed in his family's footsteps in the Turin restaurant industry. A winning team: on November 16, 2018, Spazio7 get the Michelin Star.
Born in 1984, Alessandro Mecca started his career at the "Crocetta", his family's restaurant in Torino. There, he learned the basis of cooking and discovered his passion for the Italian traditional cuisine. From his father, he inherited the "obsession" for the research of ingredients, the respect for work and for the relationships with staff and suppliers. His job itinerary includes the restaurant Guido da Costigliole (Santo Stefano Belbo), Al Sorriso di Soriso, La Ciau del Tornavento (Treiso) and the DOM in San Paolo, with Alex Atala, one of the greatest exponents of contemporary South American cuisine. He arrives at Spazio7 in September 2015, after three years at “Estate di San Martino” in Villanova d'Asti.
On the ground floor, designed by Italian artist Rudolf Stingel, a leading exponent of the international contemporary art scene, the cafeteria is the ideal place for a pleasant break at any time of the day: from breakfast to after dinner time, the cafeteria offers a complete service for all guests’ needs. Every Sunday, from 12.30 pm to 3PM, brunch menu is available.
On the first flour, the restaurant, designed and created by Claudio Silvestrin, presents mainly site-specific works. The work of Italian artist Amedeo Martegani dominates the room with his Untitled, a three-color wall painting on wallpaper and a series of multicolored silicone vases by Alessandro Ciffo complete the rectangular, peculiar main location.
The kitchen offers a cuisine with a contemporary twist. Bread, fresh pasta and desserts are strictly homemade.
